Alexandru Mâzgăreanu was nominated in 2020 for the UNITER Awards in the Best Director category for the production of "The Star Without a Name" by Mihail Sebastian, staged at the Teatrul Tineretului Piatra Neamţ. Born in 1987, Alexandru Mâzgăreanu is among the best young directors in Romanian theatre. He graduated from the National University of Theatre and Cinematographic Arts "I.L. Caragiale" in Bucharest, Faculty of Theatre, Theatre Directing Department, under the supervision of Professor Tudor Mărăscu (2008), and completed his master's degree in the same specialization, under Professor Alexa Visarion (2011). He was nominated at the 2011 UNITER Gala, in the Debut category, for directing the production "The Officials" after A.P. Chekhov, staged at Teatrul Metropolis Bucharest. He also won the Best Director Award at the "Comedia ține la TINEri" Gala for the production "The Romantics" in 2008. He was a finalist in the "Arts of the Theatre" category at the Prometheus Great Awards 2009 – OPERA PRIMA. He has directed in many important theatres across Romania, including Teatrul Național "I.L. Caragiale" in Bucharest, Teatrul Odeon, Teatrul de Comedie, Teatrul Nottara, Teatrul Excelsior Bucharest, ArCuB, Teatrul Metropolis, Teatrul "Regina Maria" in Oradea, Teatrul Tineretului in Piatra Neamț, and Teatrul "Toma Caragiu" in Ploiești. With a profound understanding of texts, he successfully brings to the present elements that lend themselves to contemporary interpretation, creatively exploring intertextuality and guiding his audiences into surprising realms and eras, while staying true to the main objectives of the authors.
