She is an honorary citizen of both Constanța city and county. Her most recent performance was in the play "The Old Lady and the Thief", and she continues to appear in other productions of the Constanța State Theatre. As a teacher, mentor, and role model for all the theatre’s actors, she imparts the privilege of sharing the stage with her. They learn from Ileana Ploscaru the values of discipline, balance, and self-sacrifice for the art of acting. "A bubbling flow of talent in both tragedy and comedy, a visceral joy and delight in acting [...] Never bored, never tired: slight in stature, but with a spirit that always drove her straight to the goal [...] With a commanding stage presence, she loved her profession fanatically and revered it like a religion," wrote the late Georgeta Mărtoiu, the theatre’s literary secretary, about Ileana Ploscaru. Born in Cluj-Napoca, she made her debut on February 24, 1951, at the "Lucian Blaga" National Theatre in Cluj-Napoca, in the play "The Fountain of the Herds" by Lope de Vega. In 1961, after achieving several notable successes, Ileana Ploscaru transferred through a competitive process to the Constanța State Theatre, debuting there on November 12, 1961, in the play "Boundless Horizons" by Nikolai Virta, directed by Constantin Dinischiotu. Her creative portfolio is extensive, including major roles such as Shakespeare’s Ophelia and the tamed shrew, Bernard Shaw’s Eliza, Euripides’ Hecuba, Giraudoux’s Aurelie, the Madwoman of Chaillot, and seven different characters in "A Man and Several Women" by Leonid Zorin, among many others. Her numerous awards reflect the immense talent and recognition she has earned as one of the great actresses of Romanian theatre.
