The HOP Young Actor Gala 2024 Announces Its Winners

The 27th Edition of the HOP Young Actor Gala concluded yesterday in Alba Iulia. This year, the theme chosen by the Gala’s artistic director, director Erwin Șimșensohn, was The Identity of the Authentic Actor – The Stamp of Their Uniqueness. The Constanța State Theatre was one of the co-producers of this program, in partnership with UNITER, the Romanian Theatre Union.

Following a Pre-HOP Acting Workshop held in Constanța, the Gala took place in Alba Iulia at the Prichindel Puppet Theatre.

The competition jury included: Raluca Aprodu (actress), Gianina Cărbunariu (director), Vlad Cristache (director), Alina Epîngeac (theatre critic), Claudiu Groza (theatre critic), Andrei Măjeri (director), and Adrian Titieni (actor).

The young actors selected to participate in this year’s Gala were: Bianca Archip, Ada-Andreea Bicfalvi, Roxana Biclea, Alexandra Bob, Nicholas Bohor, Robert Brage, Alexandra Catrina, Leonard Chionac, Ioana Cojocărescu, Andra Colidiuc, Eduard Crucianu, Darie Doklean, Luca Fumuru, Catinca Hanțiu, Bogdan Ifodi, Sorin Manea, Bianca Marinescu, Mihai Mocanu, Maria Moroșan, Gabriel Muncuș, Larisa Oasenegre, Miruna Gabriela Olteanu, Iosif Paștina, Daria Pentelie, Theodora Pintilie, Mihai Andrei Pleșa, Anamaria Popa, Andreea Alice Preda, Adrian Rîmboacă, Cătălina Romaneț, Antonia Scutaru, Denisa Tudora, Ileana Ursu, Cătălin Vîlcu, and Ștefan Voicu.

Ștefan Iordache Prize – Grand Prize of the HOP Young Actor Gala
Awarded to actress Cătălina Romaneț, for her free-choice performance Liniște, based on the monodrama Umami by Teodora Savu.

Best Actress Award (ex aequo)
Awarded to Catinca Hanțiu (for her free-choice performance Fata cu flori din soare, an original text adapted from The Summer My Mother Had Green Eyes by Tatiana Țîbuleac and Life on a Station Platform by Octavian Paler) and Antonia Scutaru (for her free-choice performance Botoșani, adapted from The Accusative Case by Mimi Brănescu).

Best Actor Award (ex aequo)
Awarded to Darie Doklean (for his free-choice performance Murdărie, an adaptation of Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll by Eric Bogosian) and Bogdan Ifodi (for his free-choice performance #IWasBornAgain, adapted from a script by Aleksandr Petrov).

Cornel Todea Award – Best Acting Troupe
Awarded to Theodora Pintilie and Mihai Andrei Pleșa for their performance OBSESIV – IMPULSIV, adapted from Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll by Eric Bogosian and Love/Sick by John Cariani. This award has been supported by the Todea family since the 16th edition.

Sică Alexandrescu Award – Special Jury Prize
Awarded to Ioana Cojocărescu for her free-choice performance Probă Magda, an original text with excerpts from The Seagull by A.P. Chekhov.

Special Hosted Awards

Award for Stage Presence, Diction, and Body Expression
Sponsored by actress Dorina Lazăr, this award was given to Ileana Ursu for her free-choice performance Eu sunt un pescăruș! (I Am a Seagull!), a dramatic manifesto-poem with original text and excerpts from A.P. Chekhov.

“1/10 for Film at TIFF” Award
Presented to Cătălina Romaneț.

Audience Awards (Decided by online voting on www.galahop.uniter.ro)

Best Actress: Daria Pentelie – 1,811 votes

Best Actor: Cătălin Vîlcu – 586 votes

Best Acting Troupe: Poartă-mă by Giorgia Aimeri, performed by Nicholas Bohor, Alexandra Catrina, Luca Fumuru, and Larisa Oasenegre – 1,856 votes
