The Constanța State Theatre Shines at the Fall 2024 Festivals
After a busy spring tour and an equally intense summer dedicated to the third edition of the Summer Season of Performing Arts – SEAS, the Constanța State Theatre team is ready for a new challenge this autumn.
The play Twelfth Night, directed by Andrei Șerban, which premiered earlier this year in February, is the highlight of this tour, receiving no fewer than four invitations to major festivals across Romania and Moldova.
The tour began in mid-September with a journey to Chișinău, where the 9th edition of the Reunion of Romanian National Theatres took place from September 10–22. On September 19, Twelfth Night was performed on the Grand Stage of the "Mihai Eminescu" National Theatre, marking the theatre’s fourth consecutive appearance at this festival.
On the way home, the team made a stop in Brăila, a city that hosts the International Theatre and Performing Arts Festival every autumn. On the festival's second day, September 22, Belgrade Trilogy, directed by Erwin Șimșensohn, brought its three stories about people longing for home to the Studio Hall of the "Maria Filotti" Theatre, playing to a packed audience.
October starts with a performance in Galați, where the Fani Tardini Dramatic Theatre hosts the 35th edition of the National Comedy Festival from September 28 to October 6. On October 3, Twelfth Night will make its second of four appearances on this autumn tour.
Next, the most important theatre festival in Romania, the National Theatre Festival (FNT), takes place in Bucharest from October 18–28. Two Constanța State Theatre productions have been selected for this year’s edition, as was the case last year. The first, 10 Things We Lost at the Mamaia Festival, directed by Gabriel Sandu and Elena Morar, will be performed on October 22 at 6:00 PM in the "Toma Caragiu" Hall of the Bulandra Theatre. The second, Twelfth Night, will follow on October 24 with two performances at 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM at the same venue. Tickets for the 34th edition of the National Theatre Festival will go on sale Thursday, October 3, at 12:00 PM, via the hosting theatres’ platforms and box offices.
The tour concludes on November 13 with the same Shakespearean tale of Viola and Orsino, this time shining at the Piatra Neamț Theatre Festival.
Later edit: Two more festivals have been added to our schedule for the coming period. The first is the Arad International Festival of Classical Theatre, organized by the "Ioan Slavici" Classic Theatre, where we will perform Twelfth Night on November 27. Later, on December 6, the team behind the production 10 Things We Lost at the Mamaia Festival will head to Timișoara to participate in FEST-FDR, the European Festival of Performing Arts Timișoara - Festival of Romanian Playwriting.
