Elena Morar was born in 1986 and graduated as valedictorian from the Theatre Directing Department at UNATC (under the supervision of Associate Professor Tudor Mărăscu). In 2010, she obtained a Master's degree in Theatre Directing. Between 2011 and 2013, she attended the doctoral program in Interdisciplinary Theatre-Film Studies (supervised by Professor Alexa Visarion). Elena Morar is active in both the independent theatre scene in Bucharest and in projects developed by state theatres. Some of her most recent productions include "BILDUNGSWOMAN" (Caleido Festival and Recul Theatre, 2021), "98% (the correct decision)" by Andreea Tănase - selected for the 2021 National Theatre Festival (The Youth Theatre of Piatra Neamț), "Venus in Fur" by David Ives (2019, unteatru Bucharest), "School feat. Cool" by George Cocoș (The Youth Theatre of Piatra Neamț), "My Father the Priest" by Gabriel Sandu - selected for the 2018 National Theatre Festival (Apollo111 Theatre), "Bull" by Mike Bartlett (Arcub, supported by POINT), as well as numerous reading performances at Odeon Theatre and Nottara Theatre. She is interested in contemporary Romanian dramaturgy (Drama 5 resident, Reactor Cluj 2020) and in blending current themes with storytelling and musical expression on stage. She also pursues a career in musical theatre (opera and musical) as a stage director/technical director and assistant director. Over the last nearly ten years, she has collaborated intensively with ONB (2012-2017), The Comic Opera for Children (2018-2020), and more recently, the Opéra de Lyon (2017-present), the Aix-en-Provence Opera Festival (2021/2022), and the Opéra de Lorraine (2021). Elena is focused on merging her two major areas of interest: a dramaturgy connected to current society and the transformative power of contemporary classical music, filtered through performativity. In Constanța, she directed the play "10 Things We Forgot at the Mamaia Festival", written by Gabriel Sandu.
