"Ovidius in Love. The Diary of a Lovesick Exile," a dramatization of a novel by Marin Mincu, is a production realized within a project funded by the Constanța City Hall, following the success of a cultural project competition themed Bimillennium Ovidius.

The context for this production was the celebration, in 2017, of two millennia since the death of Ovid.

Alexander Hausvater adapted a valuable and internationally awarded novel written by Marin Mincu, a professor and writer from Constanța by adoption, and founder of the "Ovidius" University. The novel, titled Death in Tomis. The Diary of Ovidius, directly addresses this theme, as suggested by its title.

"This Ovid is an imagined Ovid, first by Mincu, then by me, as an example of the human capacity to change, evolve, and transform. From a refined, aristocratic man who wrote about love without knowing it and about life without experiencing it, he arrives in a place called Tomis, where he encounters an absolutely stunning wild woman who transforms him into the poet of the Getae. We assert that Ovid is our poet, not Eminescu. Ovid is that soul who, by transforming himself, transforms his work," said Alexander Hausvater, the director of the play.

In 1957, to mark 2000 years since Ovid's birth, the Constanța theater staged a tragedy on this subject, written by another Constanța professor, Grigore Sălceanu.

The artistic team involved in the Ovidius in Love project included top-tier figures of the Romanian stage. Alongside director Alexander Hausvater, who adapted the novel, the scenography was designed by Maria Miu, with over 210 works in theater, opera, film, and television in Romania and abroad. The music was composed by Mircea Kiraly, widely known as a member of the band "Compact" and the creator of over 70 original theater scores and more than 120 soundtracks for short and feature films. Choreography was signed by András Lóránt, and the light design by Lucian Moga.

The performance was filmed and broadcast by Romanian Television, the project's main partner.

On the occasion of the premiere, the Constanța State Theater also organized a symposium to commemorate Professor Marin Mincu.
