"The old man and the thief" is Viorel Savin’s most staged play, the one which is remembered by the more mature audience because it had been repeatedly broadcast on national television, starring the regretted actress Irina Răchiţeanu-Şirianu.
In Constanța the play had been staged in 1991, with Ana Mirena and Iulian Enache starring. 25 years later, Iulian Enache occupied the director's chair, and Ileana Ploscaru and Dan Cojocaru are playing the main characters, supported by Alina Manțu and Alexandru Medveghi.
Director Iulian Enache wants to lead his audience towards a meditation on art and artists: "You cannot stop the present and that is why every day we have to give up the past... And, because we cannot stop it, we try to recreate it. The human whose past is already vanishing is excited, deeply, by words like "rebirth" and "rebellion". The eternity of art is, apparently, the optimal solution. It is certainly the saving of those included or targeted by that work. How do we deal with the others... with those who are pretending to be artists or claim to possess talent and invade our present through all communication channels?"
